OIL CHANGE

Why and When to get an Oil Change?

Why Get an Oil Change?

Getting an oil change on a routine basis will help your engine to last longer. Oil helps to keep your engine parts lubricated and working well.

When you get an oil change, both your oil and your filter are changed. The old oil is drained out and replaced with new oil and the old oil filter is replaced with a new filter.

How Often Should You Get Your Oil changed?

The jury is still out on just how often the oil needs to be changed. Some people say every 3,000 miles and some say every 10,000 miles. If you have an older car, getting your oil changed every 3,000 miles is probably good for you. For everyone else, I recommend changing your oil every 5,000 miles. This may be too soon for some cars, but should be perfect for most cars.

If, however:

  • You have a lead foot
  • You routinely practice jack rabbit starts
  • You pull or carry heavy loads
  • You drive off road.
  • You should get your oil changed sooner rather than later.
  • So Whats The Big Deal? What’s Going to Happen if I Don’t Get My Oil Changed?

Due to the high operating temperature of your car, the oil in your engine gets broken down. This makes the oil less effective as a lubricant, and parts of the engine rub together and wear each other out. Performing your oil changes is a pretty inexpensive type of basic maintenance for your car. Neglecting to do this can lead to expensive engine repairs down the road.

So, unless you have wads of cash that you are just dying to had over to a mechanic, change your oil on a regular basis.
